The way people find a new job has changed thanks to social media. Personnel managers are recruiting new people by using the social networks of their own staff. People expect that forty percent of the recruited people flow in via social networks. This means that it is important for people who search for a job, to maintain their profiles at social networks. The social networks which are used the most by recruiting personnel are MySpace, Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter. For organisations this way of recruiting personnel is perfect to find the right specialists. The organisation will immediately know some personal subjects about the person, and knows what kind of person is going to join the organisation. The run for election has changed. First the accent was on people who sought a job. They contacted organisations hoping for a job interview. Now the accent is on organisations that search for a new member by using social networks. Ofcourse the ‘old’ way is still used, but now the organisations already knows a lot about you and the result of the job interview will also be based on the impression the organisation has about you from the social networks.

Successful thanks to social media21/1/2011
A survey of KPN tells us that one out of five Dutch people are successfully thanks to social media. These people have found a job, new costumers, a house or a partner. The survey also tells us that the more you use social networks, the more successful you are. A optimal social network must have four core qualities which contribute in the success. These core qualities are reliability, rapidity, range and capacity. These core qualities are in a direct relation which type of social contacts you have. There are different types of contacts, these are: initiator, lecturer, reviewer, accumulator, follower, spectator or inactive. Dutch people are overall followers, because they manage their own profile, and post messages their self. Social networks have become more and more important for people. People become even successful thanks to social media. It has become a part of the life of people, because if they didn’t use social network sites, they wouldn’t have that job, costumers house or partner.

Reaction on advertisments19/1/2011
The Dutch youth doesn’t react on social media advertisement so much. This shows a rapport from the consumer authority. When the Dutch youth does react it is on advertisements where they signed themselves up for. Eight percent of the youth has reacted at least once on a advertisement which they had to play a game for to receive the advertisement. These games could be like shooting four I-pods to make a chance winning one. These games are that easy so actually everybody has the chance of winning one. When you finish the game you have to enter your e-mail address or your phone number. If you don’t fill these in, you won’t be able to win the product. For companies like Apple this way of advertising is very useful because they can see who their potential consumers are. They see who’s interested in their product and this gives them the opportunity to stimulate the demands, which could lead to buying their product. Private messages without anything special (like the game I mentioned before) are making the least impression. If these private messages work it are messages which contain a bonus or something like that. Five percent of the youth do react on these advertisements. If marketers really want to make the youth react on their advertisements at social networks, they have to be really creative.

Dangers of social networks18/1/2011
The use of social networks isn’t completely risk free. There are some things you should keep in mind by using social media. First of all it is wise not to put too much personal information on your personal page. People may abuse the information, which may end up in being stalked or worse like people who do criminal stuff by using your identity. In the second place you should keep in mind that employers watch at social network sites. Don’t put things on the social networks which are negative related with your job, and don’t upload pictures you know your employer wouldn’t like to see. Keep thinking about the responsibility your have. The last thing you should keep in mind is that nothing you say to someone on social media sites will kept secret. If you want to tell someone something personal, then you’d better use the phone or meet somewhere because these are much more reliable than social networks.

Esmee Denters18/1/2011
Esmee Denters is a Dutch pop-star who started her career on youtube. Youtube is a site where people can put their own homemade video’s on. It is the biggest video blog site on the internet. Esmee Denters had been putting videos of herself singing songs on youtube. Many people reacted positively about the songs she sung. Also Justin Timberlake saw the movies and offered her a contract at TennmanRecords. This was the start of a big career for Esmee Denters. Thanks to social networks we are able to make contact with people whom we would never make contact with in real life. It has become easier to show your talent and the chance your talent will be discovered has grown. Of course the chance things work out the way it did with Esmee Denters is still really small.

T-mobile17/1/2011
T-mobile has gained a lot of damage to their image because of the social networks. Joep van het Hek started to tweet about the bad service T-mobile offers. He had some trouble with the costumer service. The helpdesk said sorry to everything which had gone wrong, but they didn’t really do something about it. This is what Joep van het Hek irritated so much that he began to tweet on twitter about it. It wasn’t just Joep who tweeted about the bad service of T-mobile, the 45,5 thousand followers of Joep van het Hek also started to tweet negative expressions. Thanks to twitter, T-mobile has a huge image damage. This shows us that not only ventures make use of the social networks to communicate with people, but that also the consumers are making contact with the ventures by using social networks. This last one can become a huge problem for the ventures because some negative tweets of the wrong people, can reach an audience of thousands, and is as influence as word of mouth advertising.

Social network marketing17/1/2011
Social networks are really popular these days, and the popularity only seems to be growing. Almost 75 percent of the internet users have a online profile at a social network at the moment. Also the time people spent on the sites is raising. These changes in the use of social networks haven’t been unnoticed by the marketers of the business community. Marketers are using social networks for the promotion of their products and for generating brand awareness. The best thing a marketer can get by using social networks as communication tool, is to get people promoting the product to their friends. This kind of word of mouth communication has far more influence than a promotion message from the venture. Thanks to the internet it is possible to contact a specific community directly. For marketers it is important to get the community involved with the brand. This means that the community must gain the feeling that the company listens to their opinion. The making of a good relation with this community will create word of mouth communication on the social networks.

Hyves and Facebook5/1/2011
The most popular social networks in Holland are Hyves and Facebook. Hyves and facebook are in many ways the same but they also have some differences to distinguish oneself. Hyves and facebook are both social networks where you can communicate with your friends. Hyves gives the users a bit more privacy then facebook because you have to go to the personal page of the one you want to read a conversation about. With Facebook you’ll see al conversations on your news feed, what makes it easier to read the conversation and what gives the users less privacy. The users of Facebook and Hyves both have a personal page. The users of Hyves can create there own lay-out for there page. The users can change the typeface, place pictures at the background and have many more options to make a original, eye-catching personal page. Facebook doesn’t have any of these options. Facebook only has some questions which you can fill in. These questions are about your relations, work and education, hobby’s and about your contact information. I prefer to use Hyves instead of Facebook, because Hyves gives you more privacy. Not everyone needs to know what I am talking about and with whom. I also think that Hyves is more users friendly.

What is social media?5/1/2011
Social Media is a kind of media where it is all about socialising. The biggest difference between normal media and social media is the interaction between the transmitter and the receiver. The normal media (magazines, newspapers, books, television, etc.) has a one way information stream. The transmitter is the one who sends some information, and the receiver is the one who reads and sees it, but there won’t be any interaction between them. Social media is all about the interaction between the transmitter and the receiver(s). People expect each other to react on their posts. This way they start a conversation or discussion. Social media has many forms. There are blogs, microblogs, social networks, news networks, video blogs, photo blogs etc. For almost every subject is a website where you can put your ideas or opinions on, so for everyone can discuss a subject where he or she is interested in.
